Rachel Nania is an award-winning writer, reporter and editor with experience in radio, digital and magazine journalism. She’s covered local news and national trends in topics that range from recycling rates to restaurant openings (and everything in between). Currently, she’s a senior writer/editor/producer at AARP, where she reports on health and medicine.
From 2012 to 2019, Rachel worked at D.C.’s all-news radio station, WTOP, as the living/lifestyle editor, where she managed multiple beats. She received numerous accolades for her radio work during her time there, including a Gracie Award for her reporting on the growing child care crisis and a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for sound production.
The Richmond, Virginia, native studied biology and English at the University of Mary Washington before moving to Boston for a master’s degree in health communication at Emerson College. But now, she calls D.C. home.
Outside of newsroom jobs, Rachel has also spent time working in public health. When she’s not writing and reading news, you can find her chasing her kids around the nation’s capital. (Or, let’s be real: folding their laundry.)
