Hi.
Rachel Nania is a Washington, D.C.-based journalist focused on health and medical reporting. Currently, she is a senior writer, editor and producer at AARP, where most of her time is spent reporting on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the 50-plus population.
Before that, she worked as a digital and radio reporter and editor for D.C.’s all-news station, WTOP. There, she covered a range of beats, from parenting to pizza to public works — and everything in between.
With a master’s degree in health communication from Boston’s Emerson College, she’s worked in health departments, newsrooms and nonprofits. Rachel is a recipient of a Gracie Award for her in-depth series on the country’s childcare crisis. She’s also won several awards for local reporting, including the Associated Press’ Douglas Southall Freeman Award for public service journalism and a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for sound production.
Rachel was a 2019 fellow with the National Press Foundation for its dementia program and is a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists.
